This page is the English translation of the German “Datenschutzerklärung” required by the GDPR and the German Telecommunications and Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG, formerly TTDSG). The German version remains authoritative for legal interpretation.
1. Data Controller
Data controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
Marcus Belz Rheintalbahnstraße 17 68753 Waghäusel Germany
Phone: +49 1577 3456535 Email: info@marcus-belz.de
2. Scope
This privacy policy applies to the website sql.marcus-belz.de, a technical blog covering SQL Server, PostgreSQL, ETL, data quality, and AI-assisted development. The site is operated as part of a freelance activity. The other sites marcus-belz.de, di2.marcus-belz.de and pencilnmore.marcus-belz.de each have their own privacy policy. There is no registration and no user account for visitors, and comments are disabled.
3. Hosting
The website is hosted by:
ALL-INKL.COM Neue Medien Münnich Inh. René Münnich Hauptstraße 68 02742 Friedersdorf Germany
When you access this website, data about the request is collected (e.g., truncated IP address, date and time of the request, transmitted data volume, accessed page, accessing browser and operating system). This data is stored in the server log files of the hosting provider. Since 4 October 2026, the IP address has been truncated before it is stored: 11.22.33.44 becomes 11.22.0.0.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in technically error-free delivery and stability of the website).
Storage period: Log files are kept by the hosting provider for a maximum of 7 days for error diagnostics and are then automatically deleted.
4. Data Collected and Purposes
4.1 Server Log Files
When the website is accessed, the hosting provider All-Inkl stores the following data in the server logs:
- Truncated IP address of the requesting device (deleted after 7 days, see section 3)
- Date and time of the request
- HTTP status code
- Transmitted data volume
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Referrer URL (previously visited page)
This data is processed to ensure technical operation. In addition, the hosting provider generates simple access statistics from the log files (number of page views, pages accessed, referring pages, countries of origin, browsers used). Since 4 October 2026, they have been based on the truncated IP addresses and do not allow any conclusions about individual visitors. The data is not combined with other data sources. The statistics serve to show which content is being read. The legal basis for this is Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in evaluating which content is in demand).
4.2 Cookies and Browser Storage
The website uses only technically necessary cookies:
| Cookie | Purpose | Storage period |
|---|---|---|
pll_language | Stores the selected language (DE/EN) for multilingualism via the Polylang plugin | 1 year |
wordpress_logged_in_*, wp-settings-* | Authentication in the WordPress admin area (only for logged-in authors/admins, not for anonymous visitors) | Session or 1 year |
Legal basis: § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG (German Telecommunications and Digital Services Data Protection Act, formerly TTDSG) — technically necessary cookies.
No tracking, analytics, or marketing cookies are used. There is no web analytics plugin (no Google Analytics, no Matomo, no Plausible), no marketing pixels (no Meta Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no Google Ads conversion tracking), no A/B testing, no live chat widgets.
For this reason, no cookie banner is currently required (see § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG). Should tools with tracking cookies be deployed in the future, a consent banner will be added and this declaration updated.
This also applies to the newsletter sign-up form (see section 4.6): it sets no cookies.
When a page is loaded, WordPress checks whether the browser can display emojis and stores the result in the browser’s session storage (wpEmojiSettingsSupports). The entry contains no personal data, is not sent to the server, and disappears when the browser tab is closed.
4.3 WordPress and Plugins
The website runs on WordPress. The following plugins touch visitor data or the visitor’s browser:
- Polylang: manages the German and English versions and sets the technically necessary
pll_languagecookie (see section 4.2). - Download Monitor: provides downloadable files (e.g., Excel examples, rules files). For each download, the date, time and browser identifier are logged in order to count how often files are used. No IP address is stored. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in evaluating which files are in demand).
- Redirection: redirects old addresses of the website to the current ones. The requested address, the time, the referring page and the browser identifier are logged for 7 days in order to find broken references. No IP address is stored. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in reachable content).
- OMGF: serves the fonts used on this site from the website’s own web server, so that no connection to Google’s servers is established (see section 4.5).
- MailPoet: provides the newsletter sign-up form and sends the newsletter emails via the hosting provider’s mail server. The plugin runs entirely on this website’s web server. The vendor’s sending service is not used, and no data is transmitted to the vendor. Details in section 4.6.
All other plugins serve the presentation, search engine optimization, page caching and administration of the website. They collect no visitor data, set no cookies for visitors and load nothing from third-party servers.
Comments, pingbacks and user registration are disabled, and profile pictures from the Gravatar service are not loaded.
4.4 Embedded Third-Party Content
The website does not use embedded content from third parties such as YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter/X, Facebook, or similar social media embeds. External links to sources (e.g., Microsoft documentation) are placed as plain hyperlinks; clicking only then leads to the external site.
4.5 Fonts
The website uses the fonts Inter (body and headings) and JetBrains Mono (code blocks). Both are served locally from the website’s own web server via the plugin OMGF — Optimize My Google Fonts. No connection to Google’s servers is established when loading the website; the visitor’s IP address is not transmitted to Google.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in an appealing and consistent presentation).
4.6 Newsletter
This website offers a newsletter that announces new articles. Only an email address is required to subscribe, no further details are requested. Providing it is voluntary. Without an email address, however, the newsletter cannot be delivered. Subscription uses a double opt-in procedure: after signing up, the given address receives an email with a confirmation link. The subscription only becomes effective once this link is clicked. If the subscription is not confirmed within 30 days, the entered data is deleted automatically.
To document consent, the email address, the time and IP address of both the sign-up and the confirmation, and the wording of the consent are stored.
Emails are sent via the MailPoet plugin installed on this website and the mail server of the hosting provider All-Inkl (see section 3). No external newsletter service is involved. No data is transmitted to the plugin’s vendor. Whether and when an email is opened or a link in it is clicked is not tracked.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR (consent). Consent can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future, in particular via the unsubscribe link contained in every newsletter email. The lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal remains unaffected.
Storage period: Data is stored for as long as the subscription exists. After unsubscribing, the email address is no longer used for the newsletter but is kept as a block-list entry so that it is not accidentally added again. The legal basis for this is legitimate interest under Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR. On request, the record is deleted completely (see section 8).
4.7 Contact by Email
If you write to me by email, I process the details from your message (email address, name, content of the message) in order to answer your enquiry. There is no contact form on this website. The mailbox is hosted by the hosting provider All-Inkl (see section 3).
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries); if the enquiry is aimed at a contract, Art. 6 (1) lit. b GDPR.
Storage period: Messages are stored for as long as the correspondence is ongoing and are deleted afterwards, unless statutory retention obligations apply.
5. Data Recipients
Personal data is shared only with the hosting provider All-Inkl as a data processor. This covers the server log files as well as the newsletter data stored on the web server, the dispatch of newsletter emails via the hosting provider’s mail server, and the mailbox. Transfer to other third parties does not take place — unless legally required.
6. Transfer to Third Countries
Personal data is not transferred to third countries outside the EU/EEA.
7. Storage Period
- Server log files (hoster All-Inkl): see section 3 — typically 7 days, then automatic deletion.
- Access statistics of the hosting provider: see section 4.1 — aggregated figures, based on truncated IP addresses since 4 October 2026, kept indefinitely.
- Cookies: see section 4.2 — Polylang language cookie 1 year, WordPress auth cookies on logout or session end.
- Newsletter data: see section 4.6 — until unsubscription; unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days; after unsubscription the email address is kept as a block-list entry.
- Download log (section 4.3): contains no IP address; entries are kept indefinitely for statistical purposes.
- Redirect log (section 4.3): contains no IP address; entries are deleted after 7 days.
- Email correspondence: see section 4.7 — until the enquiry is closed.
- Other data: not collected, therefore no storage period relevant.
8. Rights of Data Subjects
According to GDPR, you have the following rights:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR) — You can request confirmation as to whether personal data is being processed and, if applicable, information about that data.
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) — You can request correction of inaccurate personal data.
